For Indigenous media entering the AI era, the most useful first step is not an “everything generator.” It is a workflow in which language, audio, video, subtitles, provenance, consent and cultural permissions remain traceable.

The benefit is that tools can change without rebuilding governance. The same principle can guide an AI visual magazine. AI may help organize captions, dates, places, people, topics and public-access tiers before a community or editorial reviewer confirms the record. Material involving children, elders, ceremonies, burial places, gathering locations, traditional healing, family knowledge or unpublished recordings can be classified as restricted or no-AI so later platform changes do not silently expand access.

Let RAG read permissions before content

Conventional RAG pipelines often chunk and embed everything first and address access later. Indigenous cultural-media data is better served by the reverse order: determine whether a user is permitted to access a class of information before retrieval occurs. Public news, public events and explicitly authorized language lessons can enter a public index.
